Superheroes dominate the box office once again.
The X-Men sequel debuted with a cool $65 million, which is $30 million behind its predecessor X-Men: Days of Future Past. Disney’s Alice sequel opened in a distant second with $28 million, well below Alice in Wonderland‘s opening weekend haul of $116 million in 2010. X-Men: Apocalypse took the top spot over Memorial Day weekend, trouncing Disney’s Alice Through the Looking Glass, according to Box Office Mojo.

However, Disney has three other films in the top 10: Captain America: Civil War at No. 4 with $15.1 million, The Jungle Book at No. 6 with $7.0 million and Zootopia at No. 10 with $831,000.
The Angry Birds Movie came in third with $18.7 million, while fellow second-week-ers Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising fell to No. 5 ($9.1 million) and The Nice Guys dropped to No. 7 ($6.4 million). The rest of the list was filled out by the Jodie Foster-directed Money Monster at No. 8 with $4.3 million and Love & Friendship at No. 9 with $2.5 million.
