The Billings Symphony Orchestra & Chorale will feature trumpet player Rex Richardson at The Big Brass concert March 11 at the Alberta Bair Theater.
The concert pays homage to Duke Ellington, Joseph Haydn and Louis Armstrong, among others. Doors open at 6 p.m., concert cues begin at 6:45 and the concert begins at 7:30.
Hailed as “one of the world’s most engaging and astonishingly versatile trumpeters” by Style Weekly, Richardson is a Yamaha Performing Artist and winner of the 2008 Brass Herald Personality of the Year. A veteran of the renowned chamber ensemble Rhythm & Brass and other groups, including jazz legend Joe Henderson’s Quintet and the Chicago Jazz Ensemble, Richardson stays busy as a headline artist at international festivals and as a solo artist.
Along with the performance at the ABT, Richardson and the BSO will travel to the Hardin High School Auditorium on Friday, March 10. The full orchestra performance in Hardin at 7 p.m. is free to the public. The Hardin performance is sponsored by National Endowment of the Arts, US Bank, and John and Pat Burg.

Richardson will hold four master classes during his visit to Billings at Skyview High, MSUB, Senior High and Hardin High. Symphony musicians will be holding Adventures in Music with Hardin fifth-graders in conjunction with Eckroth Music.
