The 13-episode series, which is adapted from the 2007 Jay Asher novel, tells the story of Clay (Dylan Minnette), a boy who receives a box of cassette tapes from his crush Hannah (Katherine Langford) after she commits suicide. The tapes feature Hannah’s messages to 12 peers explaining how they each played a role in her decision to kill herself. Kate Walsh will star in Netflix’s adaptation of 13 Reasons Why, from producer Selena Gomez.
Walsh will play Hannah’s grieving mother, according to Deadline. Empire’s Derek Luke, who played Cookie’s former fling Malcolm, also joins the cast as Hannah’s guidance counselor Mr. Porter.
