Alton Towers Resort has given him the Freedom of the Park and his own virtual reality headset to ensure he can have easy access back to space on their new ride Galactica. British astronaut Tim Peake has been honoured by a theme park.

Major Peake is due to return back to Earth on June 18, after 6 months and 3 days on the International Space Station.

Major Tim Peake will only need to travel to Staffordshire for his next space voyage after being honoured with the Freedom of Alton Towers – meaning he can now take countless trips back into space on board Galactica.

Galactica is the world’s first rollercoaster fully dedicated to virtual reality and takes passengers on a journey into space.

Major Peake will have a personalised virtual reality headset for the ride delivered to his landing spot in Kazakhstan.

It is the first Freedom of Alton Towers to be gifted and Major Peake will not only receive a personalised virtual reality headset, but also the keys to the park and a lifetime pass for him and his family which he can use to take a trip to space on-board Galactica.

“Major Tim Peake’s incredible journey has captured the imagination of the British public and sparked a real interest in space travel and exploring the wonders of the universe,” said Gill Riley, marketing director at Alton Towers Resort.

“The journey on Galactica is the next best thing to real space travel and has been enjoyed by thousands since we opened the ride in March. We look forward to welcoming Major Tim and his family and hope that he can enjoy a virtual trip to space on Galactica very soon.”
