2016 Tony Awards Will Be Dedicated to Orlando Victims

A two-part post on the Tonys’ official Twitter reads, “Our hearts are heavy for the unimaginable tragedy that happened last night in Orlando. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those affected. The Tony Awards dedicate tonight’s ceremony to them.”

Tonight’s Tony Awards ceremony will be dedicated to the victims and loved ones of the mass shooting in Orlando, the show’s producers announced Sunday.

Celebrities speak out against gun violence in wake of Orlando shooting

Early Sunday morning, a gunman identified as Omar Mateen entered Pulse, a gay club in Orlando, Fla. and opened fire, killing 50 and injuring 53. It is the highest death toll for a mass shooting in U.S. history.

The 70th Annual Tony Awards air live on CBS Sunday at 8/7c.
